The practical part.
Everything you would reasonably want to know before making contact, in one place, without having to ask for it.

- Length
- 55 minutes, once a week, at the same time each week.
- In person
- Second floor, 14 Fisher Street, Lewes, BN7 2DG. Tuesday to Thursday.
- Online
- Monday and Friday, by encrypted video call.
A link is emailed before each session. No account or app is needed.

- Mondays to Fridays, 8am to 7pm
Early-morning and evening slots exist but are limited.
- Fee
- £70 a session, paid monthly by bank transfer.
- Cancellation
- 48 hours notice, or the session is charged.
Applied with common sense. Illness and emergencies happen.
- Getting there
- Eight minutes on foot from Lewes station. Pay-and-display parking at Little East Street.
- Access
- The consulting room is on the second floor and there is no lift.
If stairs are a problem, say so and we will arrange online sessions or find you a ground-floor room elsewhere in Lewes.
From first email to first session
- You get in touch. By email or the form, or leave a voicemail on 01632 960 118. Two lines is plenty. I reply within two working days.
- We speak on the phone. 20 minutes, free of charge. I will ask roughly what is going on and what you are hoping for; you can ask me anything. If I am not the right person, I will say so and try to suggest someone who is.
- We meet. A full session, in Lewes or online. There is no obligation to book a second one, and no awkwardness if you don't.
- We agree a weekly time. Same day, same hour, held for you. Most people find the regularity does a surprising amount of the work.
- We review it. Every couple of months, out loud — what is helping, what is not, whether to keep going.
- We end it properly. When you are ready, with one or two sessions given over to finishing rather than a message saying you won't be coming back.
You will not be asked to fill in a questionnaire, join a waiting list portal, or explain yourself to a receptionist.
Everything else
What happens in the first session?
You talk and I listen. I will ask what brought you, and at some point I will ask a few background questions — who is in your life, what your health is like, whether you have done this before. Beyond that there is no format. Most people find the first session easier than they expected and are surprised by how quickly the hour goes.
How soon could I start?
Usually within one to three weeks. If there is a wait I will tell you honestly at the phone call rather than holding you in a queue.
Do I have to commit to a number of sessions?
No. We would agree a regular weekly slot, and either of us can raise ending at any point. I would ask for one or two final sessions when you do decide to stop, because endings are worth doing properly rather than by text message.
Do you keep notes?
Brief ones, kept securely and separately from your contact details, and destroyed six years after we finish. You can ask to see them. The privacy page sets out exactly what is held and why.
Is it confidential?
Yes. I discuss my work in monthly clinical supervision, which is a professional requirement, and you are anonymous there. The only other exceptions are a serious risk to someone’s life, certain legal obligations, and a court order. I would talk to you first wherever that is possible.
What if I need to change my time?
Ask. I hold a limited number of slots so I cannot always move things, but a permanent change is often possible with a couple of weeks’ notice.
Can I bring someone with me?
To the building, yes, and there is somewhere for them to wait. Into the room, no — this is individual work. If what you need is couples therapy, I will point you towards someone who does it.
When you are ready
There is no right moment, and waiting until you can explain it properly tends to mean waiting a long time.
