Fees

What it costs.

Set out in full, because being made to enquire about the price is a small indignity and there is no reason for it.

Fees

Fees
All sessions are 55 minutes
Session Where Fee
First phone call By telephone No charge
Weekly session Lewes, Tuesday to Thursday £70
Weekly session Online, Monday and Friday £70
Reduced fee Limited places, either format £45

The first phone call is 20 minutes, free of charge. It is not a sales call and there is no obligation on either side afterwards.

If the fee is the thing stopping you, say so in your first email. It is a practical problem and it often has a practical answer.

Reduced fee

Reduced-fee places

I keep a small number of places at £45. They are for people on a low income, students, and anyone for whom the full fee would mean choosing between therapy and something they actually need.

There is no form and no means test. You tell me it would help, I take you at your word, and we do not discuss it again. If they are all taken I will say so honestly and, if you like, let you know when one comes free.

Questions

Payment, cancellation and the rest

How do I pay?

Bank transfer, monthly in arrears. I send a short invoice at the end of each month listing the sessions in it. No card readers, no direct debit, no subscription.

What if I have to cancel?

48 hours notice and there is no charge. Less than that and the session is charged, because the hour is held for you and cannot usually be filled. I apply this with common sense — genuine illness and emergencies are not penalised, and I will always say so rather than leaving you guessing.

What if you cancel?

Then there is no charge, obviously. I give as much notice as I can and offer an alternative time in the same week where possible. I take about four weeks of leave a year and give a month’s notice of it.

Do you take health insurance?

No. Insurers require a diagnosis, session limits and reports, none of which fit the way I work, and all of which put a third party inside a confidential relationship. If insurance is how you need to fund therapy, you will want a therapist who is registered with your provider — that is a reasonable choice and I can suggest where to look.

Does the fee go up?

Occasionally, and never without at least two months’ notice. If a rise would make therapy unaffordable for you, tell me and we will work something out rather than ending the work over it.

Is there anything cheaper?

Yes, and it is worth knowing about. Your GP can refer you to NHS talking therapies at no cost. Cruse Bereavement Support offers free bereavement support. Local hospices often provide free counselling to bereaved families. Some charities and training clinics offer low-cost sessions. None of that is a lesser option and I would rather you got help somewhere than waited for money you do not have.
